
The Fisheries Conservancy Board for N. Ireland is a Non departmental
Public Body established under the Fisheries Act and the fisheries
(Amendment) (NI) Order. The sponsor body is the Department of Culture,
Arts and Leisure, who make appointments to the Board, monitor its
performance, and approve the appointment of senior staff.

Under the provision of the Fisheries Act (NI) 1966, the Board is
responsible for the conservation and protection of the salmon and inland
fisheries of Northern Ireland other than the fisheries of the Foyle,
Carlingford and Irish Lights Commission as shown below.
The areas highlighted in pink are the responsibility of the Foyle, Carlingford and Irish Lights Commission.
The Board also undertakes
agency work for the D.O.E. and a bailiffing service for the Department of
Culture, Arts and Leisure.
The Board also acts as a water bailiff on the behalf DCAL, and river
monitoring and pollution investigation agent on behalf of Department of
Environment.
